Welcome to 2021!

Let's hope this year will bring solutions and relief!!

We will continue doing our best to reach our goals:
focus, ask questions, take notes, ask more questions, and stay curious!!

Thank you parents and guardians for checking (not correcting) that all work is done!

Work hard, then play hard!

09/21/20
Ways to enrich one's vocabulary and be successful on next Friday Quiz!

- Students practice with their flash cards once everyday
- Students practice with the Quia activities on the language arts page as often as necessary (this week: NearPod Sept.)
- Students review the work done in Google Classroom with root words JUS JUD JUR which means LAW

If you want to see your child's latest scores, ask her/him to show you:
- multiplication quiz on Quia (passing: above 91%)
- comprehension test on Readworks - "Branching Out"
- work in Google Classroom: turned in (good work), or
missing/returned because it is incomplete or some modifications are needed

Please, ensure that your child is reading 4th grade books or articles.
A Cat In The Hat, Dog Man, Diary of A Wimpy Kid, Dorky Diaries, or Captain Underpants
are surely NOT enhancing your child's education. The sentences and the vocabulary are very poor.
They can select any text from 4th grade Readworks, NewsEla (online/class website) or
from the magazines I sent home. You can also come to the school library to check books out. Call first.

Ask daily to read the sentence they selected and typed on their reading log.

Thank you!

Hello Fabulous Families!

-Thank you for checking your Dojo daily! Send me any comment or question there or at: gnl2284@lausd.net

- From our PSA, Ms. Tuna: The Los Angeles Parks and Recreation Dept.  is offering a safe and structured "alternative" learning space for our students, while adhering to CDC guidelines and measures.  Parents and caregivers may drop the students off in the morning and will need to be picked up in the afternoon. Find information at these sites (I don't know anything about these centers.) https://www.laparks.org/alternativelearningcenters

https://www.laparks.org/sites/default/files/pdf/Safer%20At%20Parks%20-%20ALC%20-%20Creating%20a%20Household%20and%20Registration.pdf

- Our physical textbooks are ready to distribute. Please continue to use our digital resources until you are able to pick up your materials. EXCHANGE the iPad for a CHROME BOOK!! 4th grade: Thursday 9/10/20

- A link for parents from Eureka Math: lesson 1 to 4

- Back to School Night: Thursday 9/10/20
3:00 PM - General Session with all of us
3:20 PM - 3:35pm: Session 1
3:40 PM - 4:00pm: Session 2

- Please, keep checking that your child has completed the classwork (Google Classroom) and completes the homework, especially copying/memorizing x2 table, a 2nd grade standard, the same way we did it twice in class. Daily agenda and homework, see that page.

- Finally, please remind your child that I need to stop their video if they are eating, drinking, or disturbing the class in any other way. The class already knows that it is not acceptable. I'll give them 5 minutes to correct their behavior and wash their hands to keep the LAUSD devices clean and functionning. We all need to respect students and teachers who want to work efficiently.

Thank you!

This academic year will be online and

we are all going to do our very best to cover the essential standards.

At home, the priority will be to ensure genuine engagement*.

Students need a quiet place to be able to focus,
(for live sessions and independent work)
a desk or a table, and a chair.

Students will have to be ready by 8:55am
as if they were going to school (dressed and fed)
even though they are just going to their "study area."

4th graders, let's do this the proper way*!!

Field Trips

Picture

Tentative Schedule:

Friday, Sept. 6th: Getty Center

Wednesday, Oct. 16th
: Malibu Creek
- Calabasas

March: Natural History Museum: learning about Rocks (Earth Science + writing skills)

April: UCLA Engineering Kids Day

May: UCLA cub tour for 4th grade Honors Club (depending on funds)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Important information: Our school can only provide buses for one field trip.

Therefore, I applied for a few transportation programs offered
by various museums and centers around town. However, they provide us with only one bus;

this means that sometimes, there are no seats available in the bus
for chaperons who consequently have to drive.

In the past, chaperons would take turns and carpool.
Thank you for your understanding and your support.
